The beam of ultrasound that is reflected from the object is received and processed to form a scan image, which is a map of the 3D surface of the object, using triangulation. The scan image provides a representation of the true surface shape of the object.
The beamformer includes one or more detectors for detecting the reflected beam of ultrasound. The detection elements and the beamformers are typically arranged on a mount or support which is a component of a frame of the 3D-pointing apparatus. The support may be referred to as a beamformer mount or a beamformer mount assembly.
