Volumetric Room Simulators are fairly new in VR, but they offer a whole new world of immersion to a viewer. The more specific a simulator is, the more complex the simulation is, which means the more information it has to convey. This can cause it to take some time to load, but then to lag as well as stutter while looking through the simulated room. To date, the only way to stop this from happening is to lower the detail of the simulation in favor of the speed, at which time the viewport is now reduced to the relatively low fidelity, but massive resolution view of an eye tracker. A new solution is now available from Reality Pump, an upcoming game studio from the makers of the very successful The Deep that has just launched preorders for their upcoming game, Heart of the Swarm.

In the early days of volumetric, the game developers focused on making the experience as lifelike as possible, utilizing higher fidelity simulations in the form of massive photogrammetry and large texture maps. These were meant to bring a level of immersion to VR gamers that rivaled that of The Deep itself.

As VR camera and tracking technology have improved, however, developers have adjusted their focus to aim higher than the relatively slow refresh rate of human vision. They are happy to go with a lower quality experience in exchange for a stable and more responsive experience.

The problem, however, is that when the higher fidelity simulations are used, it creates a laggy, stuttering experience. Until now, there has been no viable solution to this issue.

That is until today. Reality Pump has just announced their own volumetric room simulator, which allows you to see your ‘perfect’ home, office, or wherever without any visible latency. It’s called ‘Virtual Home,’ and it comes in two different flavors, pre-beta and commercial release, so you’ll know what you’re looking for.

For the time being, VRFocus will be focusing on the pre-beta releases so you can get a good idea of the quality of the experience. But if you’re a fan of either The Deep or Volumetric Room Simulators, it’s worth checking out, with early access starting December 9th.

Special thanks to Reality Pump for letting us see the simulator in action ahead of its release!Q:

[Can space medicine knowledge be easily transferred to space flight?] The occurrence of space motion sickness in flight crews is still high even though the interest of space medicine has increased and the space medicine knowledge has been improved over the years. It is obviously now time to transfer the space medicine knowledge to the crewmembers and reduce the rate of space motion sickness. When a crewmember has experienced a motion sickness episode, basic knowledge about motion sickness will help him to understand the nature of the occurrence and prepare a prevention strategy.Q:

Android: Lifecycle of an android activity

I know that there have been many questions similar to this, but I have read most of them and I still can’t figure out how it works, I need a little help. I’m not sure where I went wrong.
I have a main activity which creates an activity and then calls the activity being called, from there I do stuff like setContentView(R.layout.my_layout); and onCreate(bundle); I have a state called onPause which should destroy the activity which I am in, the problem is, the life-cycle of this activity is called before my activity is destroyed, and since this activity is called by the activity who called this activity (but is it always the same, I’m not sure) the problem is not as simple as I thought and I can’t figure out how to solve this.
for a better understanding here is a layout from my first activity, it is called from a button (onclick)
